Rental FAQs

Jet Ski Rentals in the Florida Keys — What You Need to Know

The Florida Keys are one of the best places in the world to ride a jet ski. The water is warm, clear, and calm — and unlike most rental operations that confine you to a small roped-off track, Wakezone Watersports gives you full access to open water. That means real riding: open throttle on the flats, exploring the backcountry, and experiencing the Keys the way they were meant to be seen — from the water.

We operate three launch locations across the Keys — Key Largo in the Upper Keys, and Conch Key and Marathon in the Middle Keys. Each location gives you access to different riding areas, so no matter where you're staying, there's a Wakezone location nearby. All three locations run late-model Yamaha WaveRunners — the most reliable and comfortable personal watercraft on the market.

Whether you're a first-time rider looking for a safe, guided experience or an experienced enthusiast who wants to open it up on open water, we have a rental option for you. Our Early Bird Special starts at $99, our Free Ride Rental is $150, and our 2-Hour Guided Sunset Tour is $229. Same-day bookings are available at all three locations — just call 682-320-0122 or book online.

What is a "Free Ride" Rental?

A free ride rental means you have full, unrestricted access to open water for the duration of your rental. No guide, no track, no circles — just you and the water. You set your own pace, explore where you want, and ride as hard or as easy as you like. This is the most popular option for experienced riders and adventurous first-timers.

What is the Early Bird Special?

The Early Bird Special is our best-priced rental at $99. It's available for early morning slots — typically the first sessions of the day. The riding conditions are often the best in the morning: calmer water, fewer boats, and cooler temperatures. Perfect for couples and solo riders who want the best value.

What is the 2-Hour Sunset Tour?

The Sunset Tour is a 2-hour guided experience led by a certified local guide. You'll ride through the best areas as the sun drops over the Gulf, with a guide pointing out landmarks, wildlife, and the best spots along the way. Available at all three locations — book in advance as these fill up fast.

Do I Need Experience to Ride?

No experience is required. Our staff provides a full safety briefing before every ride, covering how to operate the WaveRunner, riding area boundaries, and safety procedures. Most first-time riders are comfortable on the water within minutes. If you're nervous, our guided tour option is a great way to build confidence with a guide alongside you.

Florida Boater Safety Requirements

Florida law requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 to carry a valid boater safety education certificate to operate a personal watercraft. If you don't have one, we offer a quick on-site temporary safety test before your ride. Plan to arrive 20–30 minutes early to complete your waiver and the safety test.

Can I Bring a Passenger?

Yes. Most of our Yamaha WaveRunners are designed for two riders. Passengers must be at least 6 years old. The operator must be at least 18 years old and meet Florida boater safety requirements. If you're riding with a child, call ahead so we can confirm the right setup for your group.

Florida Keys Jet Ski Riding Areas

Each of our three locations gives you access to a different slice of the Florida Keys waterway system. Here's what you can expect to ride at each location.

Upper Keys Atlantic Flats

Key Largo

Key Largo sits at the edge of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park — the first underwater park in the United States. Ride the crystal-clear Atlantic flats, spot sea turtles and dolphins, and explore the scenic Upper Keys coastline. Best for beginners, couples, and resort guests staying in Key Largo or Tavernier.

Middle Keys Open Water

Conch Key

Our main hub at Conch Key gives you access to the largest designated open-water riding area in the Middle Keys. Ride the open Atlantic, explore Florida Bay, and reach remote backcountry flats that most tourists never see. Full-service marina with boat rentals, bait & tackle, and fuel on-site.

Seven Mile Bridge & Sombrero Reef

Marathon

Marathon's riding area spans the open Gulf waters near the iconic Seven Mile Bridge — one of the most photographed landmarks in Florida. Ride near Sombrero Reef, explore Florida Bay, and take in views of the bridge that connects the Middle and Lower Keys. Ideal for Middle Keys guests staying in Marathon, Key Colony Beach, or Duck Key.
